This general workplace risk assessment is carried out under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 ("HSWA 1974") and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 ("MHSWR 1999"). A written record is required where 5 or more people are employed; it is recommended good practice for smaller businesses in any event.

First aid and reporting: first-aid provision is based on a first-aid needs assessment, with a stocked first-aid box and a named appointed person or trained first aider. An accident book is maintained, and incidents that are reportable under RIDDOR 2013 are notified to the HSE within the required time.
