🎯 Criteo Product Feed

Automatic product feed (XML/CSV) for Criteo: dynamic retargeting and performance product ads

Documentation

Criteo Product Feed — Catalog for Retargeting and Performance Advertising

The "Criteo" extension (as the card is named in the App Store) exports your store catalog to Criteo (criteo.com, Management Center dashboard) — a major advertising network focusing on dynamic retargeting and product performance advertising. Based on the feed, Criteo:

  • displays banners featuring specific products from your store to visitors who browsed the catalog but did not make a purchase (retargeting);
  • runs pay-for-performance performance campaigns across its entire network of websites, apps, and partners;
  • automatically selects the most relevant products for each user.

Checkout takes place on your store's storefront website. The feed serves as the product data source (prices, availability, photos, links) for Criteo ad creatives. Usually, along with the feed, a Criteo tag/pixel is installed on the website to track behavioral data — provided by your Criteo account manager.

The extension operates on a feed model without API keys: the platform generates a public product feed in the Google Product Feed format (Criteo supports this schema) and updates it whenever product details change. You provide the feed URL in your Criteo settings.

The card is available on the plan with marketing tools (advertising and SEO) and is hidden if none of the account's locations are in a Criteo market: the extension is unavailable in Russia, Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and Syria.

  1. Open the App Store (admin.cenaly.ru/app-store): integration cards are located in the main grid of the "Per account" tab alongside other extensions.
  2. Find the "Criteo" card — the fastest way is searching by name.
  3. Click "Configure": settings will open in a modal window directly over the showcase without navigating away from the page.
  4. In the window header, select the location for which you are enabling the export.
  5. Click "Connect" — there is no need to enter API credentials; the feed model does not use keys.
  6. The card will display feed links in XML and CSV formats, each line having a copy button 📋 (clicking it displays "Copied"). URL format: https://cdn.cenaly.ru/feeds/criteofeed/{account-id}/{location-id}.xml (and .csv).

The link block label and the tooltip below them are currently shared across all product feeds and mention Yandex Products — this is an interface inaccuracy: the links themselves lead specifically to your Criteo feed.

The feed is compiled from the location catalog (retail mode) and regenerated upon connection and when a product card is modified — when a product is created or edited (name, price, stock in the card). Stock deductions from sales and product deletions do not update the feed on their own yet — they get included during the next card edit. Variations are exported as separate items with a shared item_group_id; prices account for discounts (sale_price) and channel pricing rules, while stock levels account for inventory buffers.

Step 2. Submitting the Feed to Criteo#

Unlike self-service dashboards, working with Criteo often goes through a dedicated manager or partner, but the feed URL is added the same way — in the catalog feed management section:

  1. In the Criteo Management Center dashboard, open the catalog/feed section (Catalog / Feed settings).
  2. Add a new data source by URL (feed by URL).
  3. Paste the feed link from Step 1 (XML is recommended), specify the catalog currency and country.
  4. Set up an automatic fetch schedule and save. If a Criteo manager sets up the feed — send them the copied link to the XML feed and the parameters (currency, country).
  5. Make sure the Criteo tag (provided by Criteo) is installed on the storefront website — it is required for retargeting.

Criteo will load the feed and match items with the tag data; then the catalog undergoes verification/integration on Criteo's side.

The Criteo interface and connection process depend on the account type — refer to the catalog feed settings section and the upload by URL option; when working with a manager, simply share the feed link with them.

Which Format to Choose: XML or CSV#

Criteo accepts both. XML is preferred for variations and multiple images; CSV is convenient for manual inspection. Check with your Criteo manager for the preferred format for your account — if in doubt, use XML.

How Criteo Fetches the Feed#

Criteo automatically downloads the feed on a schedule from the specified URL. Up-to-date pricing and availability are crucial for retargeting, so the recommended frequency is at least once a day, and more often for stores with frequent changes. The platform regenerates the feed whenever an item card is edited, so each subsequent download captures the data as it was last saved in the catalog.

Requirements and Common Issues#

  • Working item links. The link must lead to an accessible item page — enable the web catalog (the location's storefront website), otherwise creatives will lead nowhere. Item links in the feed are currently being verified: they are generated from the location's storefront URL and are valid if the location has a custom domain configured (full address with a dot). Until this is resolved, Criteo may reject items for locations on a platform subdomain — check the URL in the downloaded feed before sharing the link with your manager.
  • Photo is mandatory. Without image_link, the item will not be displayed in the banner.
  • Criteo tag on the website. Without the tag installed, retargeting will not collect an audience — coordinate the installation with your Criteo manager.
  • Currency and country. Must match your Criteo account settings. There is currently no currency selection in the integration interface: the feed is exported in USD. If your Criteo account is maintained in a different currency, this is also being verified — until resolved, the platform may reject items.
  • Data consistency. Price and availability in the feed must match the item page — discrepancies degrade campaign quality.
  • Description and title. Fill in the text fields — item matching relevance depends on them.

Frequently Asked Questions#

How does Criteo differ from Google/Meta?#

Criteo specializes in dynamic retargeting and performance advertising across its network of websites and apps — displaying previously viewed items via retargeting banners. The feed schema is the same (Google Product Feed).

Is it paid?#

There is no separate purchase for the extension: it is unlocked on plans with marketing tools and connected per location. You pay for advertising directly in Criteo according to your model (typically pay-per-result / per click).

Is a website tag required?#

Yes, Criteo retargeting requires its tag/pixel on the storefront website. The feed provides item data, while the tag tracks user behavior.

Do I need to export the feed manually?#

No. The platform regenerates the feed whenever an item card is edited, and Criteo downloads it on a schedule. If an item is discontinued or its stock level changed only via sales, open and save the card — this will refresh the export.

Why aren't items showing up?#

Common reasons: missing photo, Criteo tag not installed, or data discrepancies between the feed and the item page. Item links and feed currency are currently being verified — until resolved, Criteo may reject items for locations without a custom domain or for accounts not in USD (see "Requirements and Common Issues").
