Document

PAYSLIP (Section 33, Basic Conditions of Employment Act 75 of 1997)

Employer: Employer name Employer address

Employee: Employee name, Job title Pay period: Pay period

This payslip is issued to the Employee at the workplace, during working hours, as required by s.33 BCEA.

1. HOURS AND RATE 1.1. Ordinary hours worked and rate

2. OVERTIME AND PREMIUM PAY 2.1. Overtime / Sunday / public holiday pay 2.2. Overtime is paid at 1.5x the ordinary rate; work on a Sunday or public holiday is paid at 2x the ordinary rate (or as otherwise agreed and permitted by s.10 BCEA / the applicable sectoral determination).

3. GROSS PAY 3.1. Gross pay for this period: Gross pay.

4. DEDUCTIONS 4.1. Deductions 4.2. Deductions typically include the Employee's 1% Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) contribution and, where applicable, PAYE. No other deduction is made unless required by law or agreed to by the Employee in writing (s.34 BCEA).

5. NET PAY 5.1. Net pay for this period: Net pay, paid by Payment method on Payment date.

6. RECORD-KEEPING 6.1. The Employer retains payroll records, including copies of payslips, for at least three years, as required by s.31 BCEA.

⚠️ Employers with fewer than 5 employees benefit from certain relaxations to BCEA record-keeping requirements under s.28 BCEA, but issuing a payslip at every payment remains basic wage-payment hygiene and is needed to support UIF claims and any CCMA dispute.

— — — ⚠️ This is a boilerplate template, not legal advice. Employment, consumer-protection, data protection, and food-safety law in South Africa is detailed and fact-specific (BCEA, LRA, POPIA, PAIA, CPA, ECTA, R638) — have this document reviewed and adapted by a labour/commercial lawyer, and where relevant checked against current CCMA and Information Regulator guidance, before use.
